Belief in a Youth can Change a Life

From Homeless to Starting Her Own Business

Lori is a very motivated young woman who thrived with the assistance and stability that BWC’s Transitional Housing Program (THP) provided to her during the 17 months that she participated in our program.

Before connecting with BWC, Lori was homeless and had been sleeping in her car. Once in THP, our case management helped her make significant progress on her goals.  She learned budgeting and other life skills that helped her to open a bank account, maintain two jobs, increase her income, save money, pay off debt and start a mobile window tinting business.  Lori moved from THP into her own apartment with a roommate. The life skills she learned through BWC has provided the stability for her to maintain permanent housing and attended community college classes.

BWC's THP+ Program Improves Lives

Tina came to Bill Wilson Center daring to hope that she might find a way out of the tent she had inhabited for the past two years. Her bout of homelessness came after her time in foster care abruptly ended. Physically disabled, she struggled to find and maintain a job.

Within a month of starting her housing search with a BWC case manager, she moved into her own studio apartment. This affordable housing unit provides a permanent home where she can focus on her life’s dream to become a registered nurse. Even in the midst of her own difficulties, her thoughts were with the nurses on the frontlines battling COVID during the pandemic.

Tina is now on her way to this dream, having obtained a full-time job and enrolled in community college. The moment when she held the key to her apartment for the very first time in her hand is a reminder of why Bill Wilson Center continues its fight to end youth homelessness.
